The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - the scottish point of view

The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)

What we have here today is a different band that had their main success period in 1993 when the above mentioned song reached number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. This quite is quite peculiar being made of two identical twin brothers from Scotland which have both turned 50 by today. Before making this folk rock single they had experience before by forming several punk rock bands in their high school years. The song is also featured on VH1's greatest one hit wonders for being their only US hit single. In 2007 they decided to remake the song and thus it once again reached number one in the UK.

Lyrics

When I wake up, well I know i'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next you
When I go out, yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
If I get drunk, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver up, Yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

When I'm working, yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's working hard for you
And when the money, comes in for the work I do
I'll pass almost every penny on to you
When I come home(When I come home), well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home to you
And if I grow-old,(When I grow-old) well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's growing old with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

da da da (da da da)
da da da (da da da)

dum diddle dum diddle dum diddle do da day

da da da (da da da)
da da da (da da da)

dum diddle dum diddle dum diddle do da day

When I'm lonely, well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's lonely without you
And when I'm dreaming, well I know I'm gonna dream
I'm gonna Dream about the time when I'm with you
When I go out(When I go out), well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you
And when I come home(When I come home), yes I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who comes back home with you
I'm gonna be the man who's coming home with you

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

da da da (da da da)
da da da (da da da)

dum diddle dum diddle dum diddle do da day

da da da (da da da)
da da da (da da da)

dum diddle dum diddle dum diddle do da day

da da da (da da da)
da da da (da da da)

dum diddle dum diddle dum diddle do da day

da da da (da da da)
da da da (da da da)

dum diddle dum diddle dum diddle do da day

And I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walked a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

Los Del Rio - Macarena - a song that you have danced to even if you don't remember doing so

Los Del Rio - Macarena

These guys must have one song that is famous everywhere around the world, but it's a song that everybody knows how to dance to and that makes it special. A strange fact is that most people don't know the name of the band that actually created the song and they simply know it as "Macarena" duo to the dance and the music video. Because of the great success of Los Del Rio the music hall in their nometown Dos Hermanas was named Anfiteatro Los Del Rio. The song managed to reach the hign spots of the latin pop charts in 1994 and I am most certain that it will remain in the history of music as one of the most easy songs to dance to. Have a good time listening to this one!

I am not trying to seduce you

When I dance they call me Macarena
And the boys they say que soy buena
They all want me, they can't have me
so they all come and dance beside me
Move with me, chat with me
and if I could I'd take you home with me
(Repeat Chorus twice)

***CHORUS***
Dale a tu cuerpo alegria Macarena
Que tu cuerpo es pa' darle alegria why cosa buena
Dale a tu cuerpo alegria, Macarena
Hey, Macarena

Now don't you worry about my boyfriend
The boy who's name is Vitorino
I don't want him, couldn't stand him
He was no good so I
Now come on, what was I supposed to do
He was out of town and his two friends were so fine
(Repeat Chorus twice)

I am not trying to seduce you

Ma, Ma, Ma, Ma, Ma, Ma Macarena

(Repeat Chorus twice)

Come find me, my name is Macarena
Always at the party con las chicas que estan buenas
Come join me, dance with me
And all you fellas chat along with me
(Repeat Chorus 5 times to finish)

Metallica - The Unforgiven - a song made into a legend

Metallica - The Unforgiven

This piece of music should be known by every human being living on the planet earth, if you ask me even some of our astronauts living on the moon should know it tone by tone. The Unforgiven is not a simple song that has meaning like lots of other songs, it is different as it has a legacy and 2 continuations which are respectively named "The Unforgiven II" and "The Unforgiven III". The song was a part of the one and only black album and was released as a single in 1991 and has since been played in almost every metallica live performance until this day. One interesting fact about this song is that the horn intro of the song was initially taken from the 1960's western named The Unforgiven and it was reversed in order to hide the source of the song. The live version of this song is slightly different as it includes an additional solo that is not featured in the original record. And last ,but definitely not least is the music video for the song which is indeed a breathtaking addition to the song itself and one would definitely want to see the video along with the song if he's hearing it for the first time.

New blood joins this earth
And quickly he's subdued
Through constant pain disgrace
The young boy learns their rules
With time the child draws in
This whipping boy done wrong
Deprived of all his thoughts
The young man struggles on and on he's known
A vow unto his own
That never from this day
His will they'll take away

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven

They dedicate their lives
To running all of his
He tries to please them all
This bitter man he is
Throughout his life the same
He's battled constantly
This fight he cannot win
A tired man they see no longer cares
The old man then prepares
To die regretfully
That old man here is me

What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never be
Never see
Won't see what might have been
What I've felt
What I've known
Never shined through in what I've shown
Never free
Never me
So I dub thee unforgiven

You labeled me
I'll label you
So I dub thee unforgiven

Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise - an anthem of the 90's

Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise

The 90's wouldn't have been the same if this song never saw the light of day. Coolio may not be that great when it comes to live performances but this one really hit the spot when it aired back in 1995 even if it did have pieces of Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise in it. This single was also listed under number 69 in Billboard's Greatest Songs of All-Time. This piece is also a bestselling record as it has  sold more than 5 million copies in the US. UK and Germany alone as well as more than 5.7 million worldwide. The music video for the song features Michelle Pfeiffer reprising her role in Dangerous Minds.

Lyrics

(Spoken)
You want to tell me what this is all about?

As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
I take a look at my life and realize there's not much left
Cause I've been blastin' and laughin so long that
Even my ma'ma thinks that my mind is gone
But I ain't never crossed a man that didn't deserve it
Me, be treated like a punk, you know that's unheard of
You better watch how you talkin, and where you walkin
Or you and your homies might be lined in chalk
I really hate to trip, but I gotta loc'-
As they grew I see myself in the pistol smoke, fool
I'm the kinda G the little homies wanna be like
On my knees in the night
Sayin' prayers in the street light

Been spending most their lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Been spending most their lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Keep spending most our lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Keep spending most our lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise

They got the situation, they got me facin'
I can't live a normal life, I was raised by the strip
So I gotta be down with the hood team
Too much television watchin' got me chasin' dreams
I'm an educated fool with money on my mind
Got my ten in my hand and a gleam in my eye
I'm a loc'ed out gangsta, set-trippin banger
And my homies is down, so don't arouse my anger, fool
Death ain't nuthin but a heart beat away
I'm livin life do-or-die-a, what can I say?
I'm twenty-three now, but will I live to see twenty-fow'?
The way things are goin' I don't know

Tell me why are we, so blind to see
That the ones we hurt, are you and me

Been spending most their lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Been spending most their lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Keep spending most our lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Keep spending most our lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise

Power and the money, money and the power
Minute after minute, hour after hour
Everybody's runnin, but half of them ain't lookin
What's goin on in the kitchen, but I dont know what's cookin
They say I got ta learn, but nobody's here to teach me,
If they cant understand it, how can they reach me?
I guess they can't; I guess they won't
I guess they front; that's why I know my life is outta luck, fool!

Been spending most their lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Been spending most their lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Keep spending most our lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise
Keep spending most our lives living in the Gangsta's Paradise

Tell me why are we, so blind to see
That the ones we hurt, are you and me
Tell me why are we, so blind to see
That the ones we hurt, are you and me
